Dear rider,
We are extremely sorry to inform you that we have no option but to change the route of Sunday's Granfondo, to an amended course of 65km. A series of critical issues linked to the permission to cross a town on the route of the Granfondo being refused, and that situation being communicated to us only at the last moment, means that we have been forced, reluctantly, to review the course of the Granfondo. It will now run over a reduced distance of 65km.
We would like to clarify that all this only affects the Granfondo route and that all other routes remain as advertised.
All possible attempts have been made to find valid alternative solutions to retain the original route but unfortunately none of the proposals could fully guarantee the high levels of safety standards that are fundamental for the event and for all participants. We would like to clarify that the title sponsor for the event, Campagnolo, are not responsible for the organisation of the event, we thank them for their support.
We apologise for the late notice of this unavoidable route change and ask you to understand that the organizers and many other parties have been working hard until now in an attempt to avoid this.
It was a very difficult decision for us because everything was almost in place for this eighth edition; hundreds of people involved in the set-up have worked with passion and commitment. We are still making the last attempts to try to solve the situation but we are aware that it is highly unlikely that any different late resolution can be found.
We understand how disappointing this news is for you. In recognition, we will of course reimburse all subscribers to the Granfondo with the difference between the Granfondo's registration fee and that of the reduced route.
This Sunday, together with the hundreds of volunteers, we will be at the Fori Imperiali, along the route and then at the Circus Maximus. Please join us to help demonstrate to the area that the Granfondo Campagnolo Roma is a precious resource, a moment of celebration of cycling and, above all, that it is possible to cycle in Rome!
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
